On Monday at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, healthcare professionals administered the COVID-19 vaccine to a woman while also helping her celebrate a century of life.

Mildred Grassman received her second and final dose of the vaccine on Monday, which also happened to be her 100th birthday.

On her 100th birthday, Mildred Grassman received the COVID-19 vaccine at Ascention St. Vincent Evansville

Ascension St. Vincent Evansville says that when Mildred received her first dose of the vaccine a few weeks ago, she shared with pharmacists that she had scheduled her appointment to receive the second dose on her 100th birthday.

Since Mildred can't celebrate her 100th birthday with friends and family who haven't all been vaccinated yet, the pharmacists wanted to make her day as special as possible by helping her celebrate.

This puts Mildred one step closer to being fully immunized against COVID-19, since it typically takes the body a short while after vaccination to build immunity, according to the CDC.

As of Monday, the Indiana State Department of Health said all Hoosiers age 65 and above could schedule an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Temperatures dipped back into the upper 30s and low 40s for many of us early this morning, marking our coldest start to a day in Evansville (where we fell to 41°) in more than a week. Fortunately, the chilly start to the day didn't mean that our afternoon would be a loss, it was anything but - in fact, after seeing temperature around 57° by our lunch hour, afternoon highs crept back into the mid to low 60s area-wide; we hit 63° in the River City - while that's still 2° shy of the norm for October 27th, we'll take a 3° increase over yesterday's high of 60°. The clear skies that allowed temperatures to climb as high as they did earlier on however, are on their way out as our next round of rainfall inches ever closer. The remainder of the evening ahead should remain dry, but isolated rainfall will return to the Tri-State as early as the overnight and predawn hours Thursday.
