In 2019 -- the occupancy rate for the nearly 40 hotels in Evansville was at 60 percent.

Then Covid-19 hit and it dwindled to the mid 40s.

"The hospitality business and restaurant business were hit the hardest," said Inder Singh, general manger of the Howard Johnson on Green River Road in Evansville. "When we saw the numbers dropped -- we were worried."

But now -- business is picking pack up.

"I've seen it pick up since the past two months," Singh said. "Not as it was in 2019, but we're seeing a slight pick up with occupancy, along with revenue because we do have our amentieis open -- like our pool is fully open now."

The increase -- thanks to events being brought back to the tri-state.

"We've got a lot of tournaments going on this year," said Jim Wood, president & CEO of Visit Evansville.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the teens and the families," Singh said.

Hotels are not back fully just yet -- corporate travel is still down.

"We are booking a lot of business in 2022 -- 2223 and 24," Wood said. "But we still have that cavern here in 2021 because a lot of businessess canceled. So, we are working feverishly to get back up to speed."

As for the owners at the Howard Johnson in Evansville -- they hope they continue to see more foot traffic.

"The goal is to make sure everything is back to normal for our guests," Singh said.

Temperatures were a heck of a lot more bearable earlier this afternoon - despite our northwesterly winds, temperatures peaked at 54° in Evansville earlier on and are expected to remain quite comfortable as we head into the evening hours. Expect temperatures ranging from 48° to 41° between 7 PM and 10 PM; though the added cloud cover over the coming hours will only allow temperatures to fall as low as 38° by early Wednesday morning. It's not all good news however, it looks as though some of us (especially those north of the Ohio River) could see periods of scattered rainfall throughout our Wednesday morning.
