One friday night staple is rolling the clips once again.

Showplace Cinemas is welcoming all movie-lovers back for the first date night in months.

The Tri-State favorite for moviegoers reopened all but one of its eight locations Friday after the pandemic shutdown.

"I've done my happy dance; I came early and bought my ticket," Lori Martin said.

It's a day she's been looking forward to for months. Before the shutdown, she spent almost every day at her local Showplace theater.

"I even posted to Facebook, 'When are they opening?' and when they finally announced it, I had four, five people tag me that Showplace was opening so, I'm a happy camper," she said.

After initially closing its doors in March, the chain briefly opened back up in June, before closing again amid a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Each theater will operate at 50 percent capacity for the time being. A mix of classic films and early 2020 flicks are currently showing, before new releases including, Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated 'Tenet', roll out next week.

Moviegoers will have to wear masks when they're not in their seats and concessions will be limited, but management believes the new protocols will make for a smooth reopening.

"We hope that people who come will see that it's safe and then let everyone else know that, 'Hey we went to the movie, it wasn't an issue, we felt safe' and I feel like it's just as safe to be here as practically anywhere," said Aaron Smith, manager at the Evansville East location.

And when it comes to safety concerns, Martin doesn't think there's anything to worry about.

"Being very careful is part of my everyday life anyway so they are doing their best and it is safe here," she said.

Showplace Cinemas is partnering with CinemaSafe! as the chain continues to maintain increased health and safety practices throughout the pandemic.

Temperatures were a heck of a lot more bearable earlier this afternoon - despite our northwesterly winds, temperatures peaked at 54° in Evansville earlier on and are expected to remain quite comfortable as we head into the evening hours. Expect temperatures ranging from 48° to 41° between 7 PM and 10 PM; though the added cloud cover over the coming hours will only allow temperatures to fall as low as 38° by early Wednesday morning. It's not all good news however, it looks as though some of us (especially those north of the Ohio River) could see periods of scattered rainfall throughout our Wednesday morning.
