The American Red Cross is calling on all healthy blood donors to give after recent winter weather caused the cancellation of hundreds of blood drives.

According to the Red Cross, the recent bout of winter weather impacted blood collections across 30 states, with hundreds of blood drives being canceled. Officials say that those cancellations caused more than 15,000 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected.

In the River Valley Blood Services Region, which includes Central Kentucky and Southern Indiana, the Red Cross says over 700 blood and platelet donations went uncollected with over 25 blood drives canceled across the region.
