Mild Thursday Followed by Another Arctic Blast

temperatures may surge for our Thursday ahead, but another cold front and colder air to follow will make winter's presence felt.

Afternoon highs reached just the upper 30s and low 40s earlier this afternoon, down nearly 10° in some spots from yesterday - fortunately, temperatures aren't expected to crater overnight. Increasing cloud cover and a southerly wind flow will only allow the mercury to dip into the mid 30s for much of the Tri-State early Thursday morning; that being said, there's a possibility that some of our Kentuckian communities could see scattered rainfall late this evening and overnight.

Thursday looks more pleasant overall. While winds may be a bit breezy at times, temperatures will surge across the Ohio Valley tomorrow afternoon! We'll see our warmest temperatures in a week as the mercury creeps up into the mid to low 50s area-wide - we'll hit 53° in Evansville (that's 12° above the norm for this time of the year). That evening however, a passing cold front will remind us all that it is still very much winter.

We'll kick off our Friday with morning lows near 27° (a nearly 30° swing from the previous afternoon). The clear skies anticipated for the end of the work week won't do much to drive temperatures higher - in fact, northerly winds will continue to force a cold arctic air mass in over the Tri-State that afternoon. After only reaching 39° earlier in the day, temperatures will dive into the upper teens and low 20s by the predawn hours Saturday. Evansville's morning low of 21° will mark our coldest recorded temperature of 2021 and the lowest since the morning of December 26th. Stay warm.

Temperatures were a heck of a lot more bearable earlier this afternoon - despite our northwesterly winds, temperatures peaked at 54° in Evansville earlier on and are expected to remain quite comfortable as we head into the evening hours. Expect temperatures ranging from 48° to 41° between 7 PM and 10 PM; though the added cloud cover over the coming hours will only allow temperatures to fall as low as 38° by early Wednesday morning. It's not all good news however, it looks as though some of us (especially those north of the Ohio River) could see periods of scattered rainfall throughout our Wednesday morning.
