An Evansville man is facing theft and burglary charges after police say he was found with tools near several dismantled AC units on Tuesday night.
Officers with the Evansville Police Department were sent to a residential area on N. Second Avenue around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday night after someone living in the area reported seeing at least two men trying to steal AC units from their neighbor's house.
When officers got there, they say they found 21-year-old Deaundre Cox hunched over a black bag of tools next to one of the AC units.
Officers say they saw damage to the AC unit that Cox was standing next to, and that another AC unit was seen nearby in a shopping cart.
Police say that Cox admitted to being a "scrapper," and that he claimed ownership of the tools.
He was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $1,000 bond on charges of Theft, Burglary, and Criminal Mischief.
